You get used to things being as they are. Time has passed
since removal of teeth and adjusting to the denture lifestyle has happened. Then
you go through the morning without putting your denture in and don’t think
anything of it.
You feel hungry so you make toast and a cup of coffee and then;
damn.
I haven’t put my teeth in. You go and get your denture, quickly put
fixative on so it’ll stay in. the directions say wait five minutes before eating
and drinking, so you wait.
By this time the toast has gone cold, the coffee is at
the perfect drinking temperature but you still need to wait.
And so you wait…
Given the direction, I think five minutes' wait is fine
for drinking something. But definitely not eating. They wobbled and jiggled in
my mouth as I tried to chew the now cold toast. I’m pretty sure half the toast
is between my denture and the roof of my mouth.
I think half an hour wait before eating is better. Let
the fixative do its thing before disturbing it. And make sure your toast stays warm.
Do you have an equally horrible eating story? Share it in
