The main cause of denture pain
when you first wear them is because the gums are still healing. Give them time.
Cope with the pain as best you can. You still need to adjust and wear the
denture so the best thing is to wear them for an hour or so, then take them out
and give your mouth a rest.
Splinters of bone can come loose
during the extraction process and these splinters can poke through the gum. When
the denture goes in these splinters can cut the gum causing pain and
discomfort. If the pain is too unbearable, talk to your
dentist about removing the splinters, during the first few weeks you would normally have a check-up or call them for an appointment.

Allow yourself time to heal. Don’t
think that it will magically heal because you want it to. This is the time to
give yourself the rest and recovery you need. Do something you enjoy. Relax and
spoil yourself. There’s no point rushing through the recovery time, and no
point trying to keep up with someone else’s recovery. We all heal when we heal
at our own pace.
In my recovery time, I binge-watched
the first four seasons of “The Walking Dead”. The time off was so worth it,
even though I had the thought that if I was in the show and I got bit I’d be
the only ‘walker’ having to carry a blender.
The first week is the hardest.
The second week is a little
uncomfortable.
But soon you’ll have the denture
in and not even realise you’re wearing it.
Take the time you need, that’s
the best advice I can give you.
